  • max 2019 renders darker than max 2016

    Hi,

I recently had to re-install Windows 7 in the middle of several projects. I had been using 3ds max 2016 with VRay Adv 3.60.05, but because max 2016 is more than 3 versions old, Autodesk would not allow me to install it again(!), so I opted to get with the times and install max 2019.

Unfortunately the exact same scenes are now rendering darker/under exposed with max 2019 & Vray 3.60.05 than they did with max 2016 & VRay 3.60.05. Are there any obvious reasons for this? I'm using a Physical Camera with VRaySun+Sky (Daylight System) in this particular scene.

    Many thanks.

Looks like the sun light is missing? You can clear the geometry and send a simplified version of your scene to support.
If it was that easy, it would have already been done

      Hi Peter,

Thanks for the prompt response. The sunlight missing was exactly what it was - doh, seems so obvious when someone else points it out!

Something must have happened to the Daylight System in the change of versions, because as soon as I placed a fresh Daylight System into the scene, it rendered exactly as it had in max 2016.

Would you still like me to strip out the original scene and send it over?

Oooh, one thing you can bet on is Peter having seen more than most people's share of oddities.
It often seems obvious after Peter points it out, you see.
Which is why we all go to him, ahah.
