  • Vray Next - Update 2 - Spotlight issues

My team and I just upgraded our render farm to update 2 and we submit via deadline.

With update 2, we seem to be getting Gamma differences between the workstations and the render farm. When the job is submitted to the render farm on its own, it seems to be working correctly.

Has anything changed within vray that would now cause the gamma to not be the same between all machines?

    Thanks!

No, I'm not aware of any changes. When saving files, the gamma is entirely controlled by 3ds Max. Just in case, if you resave the scene with the new version, are there still issues?

    Best regards,
    Vlado

So we have done countless tests - to try and fix the issue - One note is that the buckets are breaking (Showing gamma discrepancies) in the vray lighting pass- and the main RGB render pass.

One test we are narrowing down to is the new change in the dome light. From having a checked box for adaptive dome to now being native, we think this might have something to do with it.

We are going to delete our current dome and render to see if thats causing the issue. Will report back.

In response to saving the scene, its not changing anything.

Aha, thanks for the pointer - yes, there is a bug with the dome light that I'm investigating (it's not about the adaptive dome light specifically). In any case, please let me know how it goes.

          Best regards,
          Vlado

So we just did a small test - 1 Vray Dome light and 2 spotlights.

The scene is still not working while DR'ing.

The host machine is rendering as if there are no spotlights in the environment and the DR machines are rendering it on, as it should be.

            Im lost.

            --------------------------

The next test were going to run is to turn all lights off and just use a vray sun and sky system to see if that works.

Received this error after creating a new max scene while keeping objects and heiarchy, resetting vray, grabbing nodes with deadline and submitting it.

To add into the issues, were also having issues we found that we open a scene, render - It looks like its supposed to. We stop the render - Start it in either IPR or standard render and the spotlights are absent. And this is just rendering locally.

Yes, it seems to be the same underlying problem.
