    Hello,
getting crashes with the setup as the topic says.
Curious if anyone is using MAX2020 up1 with latest NEXT and lates available FP without any problems please?
I cant find anywhere if the latest FP supports NEXT upd 2.
I will attach minidump as soon as i have another one.
    Thanks for any info!

    Update:
It was a first time i opened this scene since instaling max 2020 over 2019.
Problem resolved by merging the scene into a new one.

      spoke too soon.
I get very frequent crashes of max, usually while navigating in the scene and/or when IPR is running.
      430.64 nvidia driver here
will try downloading lates stable nightly.

I think that FP is rensponsible for 90% of my crashes...

I would have thought so too BUT i have really done quite intense search through their forum and it doesnt state NEXT update 2 and MAX 2020 anywhere...The last file i am able to download for instalation is quite aged, its the 6.2.1. version.

Does it mean you get crashes when V-Ray is not running?

Either way, if you can get me a minidump crash file to vlado@chaosgroup.com I will be able to tell you more about the cause.

            Best regards,
            Vlado

              Hi Vlado,
i reinstalled the nvidia drivers to 430.86 and the reinstalled vray to the latest stable nightly and the crashing is gone.
Either it was vray or it was nvidia.
              HOWEVER
now when working with IPR i get some slowdowns with Optix denoiser. When i poen the file all works well but some time through the work it starts slowing down - the responsiveness o denoising.
Vray log window says warning that its expecting Optix v 6.0.0. and i have 6.1.2 (or somethign liek that)....could it be because of that?
When i switch to Vray denoiser all works like a charm.

It looks like the NVIDIA drivers are screwing the whole thing.
I know there are recommended Nvidia drivers that shoudl be used with Vray - i read the 430 series is fine and it definitelly works with MAX well.
Having said this, perhaps, having a sticky that would suggest drivers to use for specific version of max and vray woudl be great (if you guys have such info)

BTW - the reworked bump map is FANTASTIC! thanks a lot!

                spoke too soon again.
i am gettgin some strange hangs everytime i do something in material editor, the rendering hang s a bit (we seconds 3-5) and the updates the VFB.
using a very simple material with 2 textures...

the hangs are commig from material editor.
Even if i dont render, chaing something in material slate editor takes ages.
Closing and opening ME doesnt help.

Is it likely that MAX always redraws/rerenders all the materials within a VIEW tab in slate editor when a change happens when IPR is on?

ok so i can confirm that i get quite consistent crashes after some heavy usage of IPR in two occasions:
                    - scene save after stopping IPR
                    - scene exit after finishing with IPR

Vlado, could you please have a look on that minidump attached to see if its vray related?
                    Thanks!

I've been using Max 2020.1 for a few of my latest projects together with the latest version of Forest Pack. I don't remember having any crashes.

Hello . I've had the same problem but with vray 3.70.01 . Crash when openning/closing render dialogue , FR menu etc . I think I tried everything . Different machines , drivers , windows 10 compilation . Autodesk Support wrote that it is vray compatibility problem . At the end I uninstalled 2020.1 update and now stability is OK. I use 3ds max 2020 vray 3.70.01 and last FP 6.2.1.

The crash happens when 3ds Max is trying to save the file; however, what exactly it is trying to save is difficult to determine from the minidump (i.e. if it's a V-Ray object, a Forest Pack object or something else). Merging to a new scene might help, as someone above suggested. Is there a way for me to reproduce the situation here somehow though?

Also, if you download a more recent stable build, is the issue still there? There are a couple of additional IPR-related fixes in the stable builds from today compared to when you got your build.

                            Best regards,
                            Vlado
