  • Vlado can you check this?

Hey came across these reports on russian forum and Im wondering if its true that vray .15 has issues with animaitons? Its important for us to know as we are about to start a major project (movie)

I haven't seen any major issues that haven't already been discussed on the forum. Having translated the page, I cant find any relevant specific info regarding issues with animation. I mean for all I could get from the page, they could have been referring to the frame flicker caused by cracked vray.

Haven't heard of issues with atmospherics and moblur though...

no, they are saying that when rendering animation with iradience or light map, the rendered frames show as blank. So I imagine nothing renders. Also they are saying that F-edge is not working with version 15 that it is giving vray exeption

I've rendered several animations with the latest builds and all of them seem to have run fine. If there are problemmatic cases, I'm always ready to look at them, but I haven't found any so far (except for the mb+displacement thingy which will be fixed).

        Best regards,
        Vlado

We render animations all the time and have no such issues, we have been using f-edge extensively with no problems as well (haven't tried it in 1.46.15 though, I'll try that right now).

BTW, accessing that page gives me a virus warning from Norman Virus Control, something about a JS exploit file.

good to know. I remember back on bsg, we were on version 1.45 i think, and when rendering animation with moving characters and moblur some frames (very few) produced strange blur of a single part of the cheracter (arm) which would seem that the arm would blur by 100% more then needed to. I went around this by setting the blur value for 0.035 i think (duration) and rendered those bad frames.
            weird...

I've been using Vray to render animation of characters for a while now. If anything, the new .15 release is better then the last ones by far. However, there are still some issues with Motion Blur and Displacements as Vlado said. These have been like a monkey on my back for a long time and I'll be really happy to see them gone.

                what kind of issues?
blur/displacement seem to not like each other in vray.

Well, the specific issue was that of a motion-blurred object with displacement and ObjectXYZ mapping for the displacement map.

                  Best regards,

I got sidetracked yesterday so I wasn't able to test f-edge. I have tested it today though, and it works fine in 1.46.15 here as far as I can tell.

Done a lot of shots with mblur and displacement lately, rendered out at film rez, worked great. If, as vlado said, the issue was using xyz mapping so the displacements were "swimming" through the map, then it's a mapping issue, not a vray bug. I've had no problems whatsoever using displacement maps and mblur. Oh wait that's not true, I had about a trillion unhandled exception errors. But I blame HairFX...

I tried the ornatrix demo, and it crashed so much I gave up very very quickly - it was basically unuseable. I believe it's been made much more stable since, but had deadlines, and deadlines cant wait for bug fixes...

indeed...i think in your case scanline/multipass with moblur can be a solution to avoid exeption as im pritty shure that moblur is causing it.

Well, actually we got it working in the end with Vray motion blur. I hate the look of post mblur, and multipass is pathetically innefficient. Vray mblur on the other hand looks fucking great
