  • Vray triplaner randomize by Render ID

What is the render ID, and is it supposed to change mid sequence?

Rendering an animation sequence and every tenth frame or thereabouts all the maps which are triplaner set to randomise by render ID switch to a new random position. It's not every frame, and it's not only on certain machines. Is render ID not a stable input to use?
None of the geometry is animated, it's cameras moving through static spaces.

this should never change. once an object is created it is unique forever for all I know.
    edit:
    Xrefs?

yes. scene is using lots of xrefs....

While scenes have been rendering i've been going into a few of them that are not visible but active in the scenes that are currently rendering to continue working - because we're using the cloud I queued up 12 shots at once.

Am I correct in assuming that if a scene is pulling 10+ xrefs, and one of them gets edited, it reshuffles and randomizes every single render ID again?

actually that doesnt check out. i've got texture flickering between frames that were rendering in the middle of the night on the cloud, it cant be related to me opening and re-saving xrefs. I did do that, but I also didnt...

wait, I did confuse things. I was thinking 3ds max node handle and VRayTriplanarTex is using render ID that is assigned by VRay not 3dsMax.
I tend to randomize by face ID so I have control if I need the continuity between some obj/elements.
XRefs are not the issue here.
          Cloud? just a guess.

Been staying up until 2am sending object passes and have been sending all new renders with xrefs merged into the scene, so current and new renders are stable.
So technically it's sorted... being sorted. Film delivers in a week!

If i get some breathing room once it's done i'll set up some tests to reproduce it. shouldnt take long to reproduce with a small/empty scene and 2 xrefs with one object in each.

It doesn't help right now but we have a feature request to use node ID or node name instead of render ID; the node ID is guaranteed to be stable between renders.

                Best regards,
                Vlado

so right now if I use renderID using triplanars on Xref scenes, would the texture change between frames?

Only if you open one of those xrefs mid render and save it again. If you leave them alone / package them with the render file via deadline they will be stable.

it's fine - i'll be done soon, a fix for the future would be appreciated though!

And this is also unique for many instances of the same object?

Just to report that I had a similar problem during an animation. The dirt on my buildings started to dance. I forgot I set it to renderID and by adding some objects to the scene, the rotation, translation changed...

Hi vlado when this "node ID" will be implemented?
