  • Vray Color Selector keeps jumping values

    See video here:
    https://vimeo.com/user103339114/revi...794/b75041b7c7

Whenever I try to set certain values in the color selector, The values keep shifting, this prevents be from being precise. The numbers it jumps to can be can be pretty drastic. What could be causing this behaviour?

I'm using 3ds Max 2019, latest service pack. VRay Next update 2.1 although I have noticed this on Max 2020 as well.

    Hello,

As far as I can see - you are inputting HSV values in the color selector right ? For example at around 0:20 you are inputting HSV values (25,72,6), click OK, open again and now the HSV values are (21,85,6). The problem is related to how the Color picker works. The HSV pickers shown in the color selector are only for convenience and any values put there are converted to the integer RGB values. The whole conversion HSV <-> RGB in the color selector is done with integer values and that is not precise.
In your video at around 0:20 you can see that with HSV values (25,72,6) you get RGB values (6,5,4). Then when you reopen the selector you have HSV values (21,85,6) but the RGB values are still the same (6,5,4).

The color selector itself is actually the 3ds Max default color selector - it is not something V-Ray specific so it is beyond our control.

    Best regards,
