  • How to get a good displacement only on one side of a box?

    Hi,
i get crazy, can someone please give me help?

i want a simple box with all sides the same material except one side. This one side i want to have a displacement ( for ex. a simple noise) with good continued edges to all other non displaced sides.
I dont get it done that it looks good.

    many thanks for help!

i thought it´s quite an easy task...here is a little file and the rendering. whats wrong here? that can´t be that difficult. the sides are quite looking good, but all their edges get displaced... bug or my incapability

Thanks for the report and the provided scene. I've forwarded the information to our developers for discussion, I'll contact you again with an update about the matter.

This can work fine if you use material displacement, if that helps at all.

You would need to ensure there is at least 1 or 2 pixels of black around the edge of your texture for it to work. This will not show up in the render as it's tiny, but will keep the edges from splitting.
Just noise will not work, unless it's masked on the edges with a b/w bitmap which has that black edge to keep it from displacing the very edge.
I hope that helps. I can post an example this evening if you're still having trouble.

thanks! that works, if its that easy with a box...i try to get it done with a vraydirt for the edgetexture for a more complex situation... Click image for larger version

Yeah it'd work on anything from one face to more, as long as the mapping is correct. Glad you sorted it
