  • Problem with Threadripper 2990WX on distributed rendering

Hi all, I have a problem with my render farm and not sure what can be causing it.

The fact its I´ve been using 3DS Max 2017 and Vray 3.5 last years, with a 14 nodes Render Farm. No problems at all.

Now I´m upgrading the computers, with Threadripper 2990WX, Now I´ve 6 of them and they double the speed of "old" nodes (that was dual-xeon E5-2630v4)

When I´m using the TR2990WX as a node, there is no problem. I launch from workstations with i7-5960X and all nodes works perfectly ( 100% CPU usage when its rendering an image)

But the problem I´m noticing since the computers upgrade to TR2290WX as workstation its when begins to render the image, the node´s CPUs are at 30 or 40% CPU usage on average. Visually you see how the buckets are "delivered", and in this moment the Node go a bit seconds high ( 100 o 80%) but then it begins to go down sometimes at 20% until suddenly another "set" of buckets are delivered, and again take near full cpu usage some seconds, and again begins to drop.

I think the problem maybe that how I´m using the localhost also to render (and the workstation its at 100% all the time), it don´t have enough "powerfull" free to make the delivery task.... But I´ve never have this problem on the i7-5960X.

I tried disabling "on the fly" some cores on the TR2990WX (it has 64) and It worked, but the problem it´s I dont want to be using this every time.

Anyone has had problems like this??? Any suggestion?

Thanks a lot for your help

I don't know if this will help but the network should be fast enough to handle all that processing power. Have you given a try for a faster network switch?
