Vray volume grid gamma

I usually set the gamma in the volume grid to 2.2 to get predictable results. If I set it to 1 I almost always get super blown out highlights, especially if I use sun and sky. But in the help it says that it should always be set to 1? Anyone else got the same issue?

Could it be your color mapping settings? How do they look? It should be working correctly with a gamma of 1 for the volume grid.
