  • Standalone renders default 3ds max noise map different than VRay plugin.

    Hello,
    I have been using Vray Standalone with 3ds max for quite a while. I remember trying it a while back, and the default 3ds max noise map looked the same when I rendered it with the standalone renderer or the 3ds max plugin.
    Now I have seen that it renders different, even in very simple setups using the most recent version (update 2). Am I doing something wrong? Was I hallucinating?

    There is one more thing:
    Even when I use the VrayPluginNodeTex with "TexNoiseMax" in order to replicate it, it renders differently, not in terms of patterns, but in terms of intensity:

      The native Noise tex in Max has never been the same in V-Ray Standalone and that's expected, but the other approach should give 1:1 result. Can you attach the scene or send it over by email?
      If it was that easy, it would have already been done

          In addition to what slizer said, as an alternative, you can bake the noise map (via Render map) and use the result instead.

            The difference comes from the Max's default lights, which are ON when you don't have GI (by default). If you turn them OFF completely (V-Ray tab in Render Setup) or switch the GI ON, it should be the same.

            Aaand in case you don't need the procedural and/or 3D functionality of the Noise tex, you can bake it as Alex suggested.
            If it was that easy, it would have already been done
