  • Change material ID of Alembic particles

Is there a way to change the Material ID of alembic particles loaded via VRayProxy?

can change the material id in the 3dsMax's The "Material" modifier, but the motion blur (Velocity Info) will disappear.

    Confirmed with V-Ray 3.70 and Next Updade2

Could you elaborate on the matter? What exactly is the case and what do you wish to achieve?

This is because multiple materials are managed using MultiSubMaterial.
For multiple Alembic particles, the material is switched by the material with MultiSubMaterial.

It also uses ExtraTex+VrayMultiSubTex to generate the mask.

Not sure if you can change the material ids within the alembic since they are written during the export process.

As a confirmation, the 3dsMax standard alembic importer does not lose velocity data even if the material id is changed.

Is this a specification of VRayProxyObject Alembic Impoter?
I would like support for this feature.

Have you tried baking the particles to meshes, exporting them to alembic and afterward loading them in the scene via a VRayProxy (and applying the Material modifier)?

No. Mesh conversion is not considered because it is used as Alembic particles.

Will Velocity be preserved for Alembic Mesh data?

Thank you for registering with Bug Tracker.

I couldn't determine if this was a feature request or bug.
