  • hedge rendertime with railclone object explodes

    hi,

i made a hedge, first with forestpack, distribution mode = path (2 source objects in the scene). it renders quite fast but the 90 degree edges were not that good with this forestpack path method, so i changed to railclone. the object looks now very promising, but i had to split the hedges in 3 parts and screw up the railcloneobject display/limits/faces from default 5M up to 200M to get them rendered at all.(without faces warning)
but now it takes forever to render.

i don´t understand that, cause the instanced geometry is quite the same. the overall distribution is for sure a bit different, but this is no 5 percent more to render.

i could provide a small scene, it has 75 mb.
i send the same file to itoosoftware, cause i´m not quite sure if its a railclone or vray problem.

    thanks for help

    answer from itoo:

Your logic to disable bend and slice for the segments is 100% correct. This way segments should maintain instances. There is also one more step, that is not that obvious.
Corner Bevels creates additional, non instanced geometry(and with HighPoly meshes RAM usage explodes).
You can fix that by setting Bevel Mode to None. And repeat on all 3 RailClone Hedges.

...btw, my ram did NOT explode (15GB from 64GB) and the edges became less good with "bevel=none" (see the attached pictures),

so i made a new railclone-generator for the edges only, where i attached a quadratic hedge. now it looks good and it renders quite fast

but for me it is really not comprehensibly why rendertime explodes that crazy much with "bevel=extend"...
