  • Self Illum in reflect and refract.

This is hard to explain, but here goes.

You have a sheet of glass, with a light material object in front (Camera side) and one behind the glass. I can only have the lightmat objects in the self illumination RE for either the reflection of the front object, or the refraction of the object the other side. This is done with the affect channels option in the glass material.

Any way to achieve the light objects in the self illum RE for the reflection and refraction. The idea is I want to use the self illum RE in PS to add a glow to the light objects inc their reflections, but have to choose from the front object and its reflection, of both objects, but not the reflection front reflection.

Something to play with for the weekend! I'll add images next week as out the office.

All, made some renders to highlight the differences, and issue. The only change on the glass mat is the affect channels changeing from reflect to refract and back.

Currently, it isn't possible to see the effect in both the reflections and refractions simultaneously. However, you may use the following workaround to achieve the result:
Rather than using a VRayLightMtl, convert your objects to VRayMeshLights to be used in a VRayLightSelect set to the 'Direct specular' mode - this will show the direct reflection of the mesh lights. As for the refractions - set only the glass' refraction to affect all channels and use the VRaySelfIllumination pass.

Oh clever. I'll try that out! In some instances converting the mesh to lights will be tricky but can be planned for. Thanks
