  • ColorCorrect plugin can cause shading problems

    The ColorCorrect plugin can cause shading problems with VRay (red dots, bright spots etc). This seems to be because of bugs in the ColorCorrect plugin itself and is not a VRay problem specifically.

    This was tested with version 3.0.3.6 of ColorCorrect.

    Best regards,
    Vlado

      Well, I've sent an email to Cuneyt Ozdas - if there is anything that can be done, he is the one to do it...

          hmm, I've been using CC w/ vray on different projects w/ lot of maps affected by CC, and so far I haven't had any issues........but thanks for the warning....hope things will keep going the way they are (crossing my fingers)

            I suppose it may be happening only with HDR images, but I'm not sure...

              You can try this: Take a standard material and put a noise map in the diffuse slot. Then two colorcorrect nodes on top of the noise. The lower one with contrast 400 and the colorcorrect on top with gamma >1.

              Standard material
              diffuse:
              colorcorrect (Gamma >1)
              +--->colorcorrect(Contrast 400)
              +----->Noise

              And it's red (also with max scanline renderer).

                I believe this is the second time an issue between VRay and CC has occurred, its so annoying specially as i use it alot.

                  color correct is strange...it looks like a great plugin but it doesn't work as i expect it.
                  especially the hue/saturation controls are confusing.

                      IT is CC that is broke, not VRay . Basically it works, just if you try to tweak a map too far you can have issues.

                        Yeah, one time I tried to turn a map of reddish tuna into a green garnish with color correct... apparently I'd gone too far, overbrights were everyyywhere.

                        Another note about using CC with HDRI maps -- I've had problems, but have successfully been able to hue-shift them using HSL space. I've found that if I have RGB space ON, even with no adjustments made, VRay freaks out and takes a loonnggg looongg time to calculate the HDRI.

                          also, the saturation does not work at all.

                            I downloaded the latest build from Cuney Tozdas' site, no guarantees, but it past the test given on this thread for non HDRI images...

                              I've been using it for a while now, with both Max 9 and Max 2008 in combination with VRay 1.50.00 and 1.50.17 but haven't had any problems. So I guess it has been fixed over the past three years :P
