  • Nvidia Optix Denoiser Error on high resolution images

I'm evaluating an upgrade to Next from 3.6 and have an error cropping up when trying to use the Optix denoiser, but only on higher resolution images. Everything works fine on a 1920x1280 image but when I try to double it to 3840x2560 i get an error and it does not denoise:

I'm on Vray Next 3.1, with the latest Nvidia driver in Windows 10. Graphics card is GTX 970. Is it just a memory issue on the card (it's only 4gb)? I can't seem to locate any info on error code 7001.

Most likely you're running out of memory since the OptiX denoiser is a bit VRAM hungry. Denoising a 3840x2560 image on a test setup resulted in the OptiX denoiser taking around 3GB of memory and when on top of that you add the running software, it seems that this may very well be the case. You may try monitoring your GPU memory usage as a confirmation.

Thanks. As I suspected. I just wish the error message was a bit more explanatory (i realize this message may be a limitation from Nvidia as well).
