  • weird gamma problem

    Hi!
haven't been on this forum for years but this time i ran into so weird issue that gives me headaches...

after struggeling with backburner for years i finally bought renderpal to replace it. that works pretty well but a new issue came up and i am pretty sure its not the management software's fault.
i am rendering on max2017 and vray 3.06, outputting exr images trough vray framebuffer. renderpal send the images 3dsmaxcmd.
now to get the correct gamma i found that i need to enable gamma correction and add an inverted 2.2 gamma to the input (0.455).
now the funny (or not so funny) part is, that most computers output correct images but 3 machines ignore any gamma override in the commandline string.
using backburner or rendering locally or using the computer as spawner does not have this issue.

an example of the string to start a rendering:

    "C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 2017\3dsmaxcmd.exe" -workPath:C:/Users/xxx/Documents/3dsMax -camera:Ani_EXT_cam02_0-200 -width:1920 -height:1080 -start:1 -end:10 -nthFrame:1 -frames:1-10 -gammaCorrection:1 -gammaValueIn:0.455 -rfw:0 "\\NAS\ProjectsA\IFileA.max"

i read this forum article and it sound related but there was no solution offered...

i really would need more insight to this topic. could it be in the ini files? can you set up 3dsmax so that it will not mess with gamma in any way?
    thanks

Have you checked in the windows regional settings of those 3 machines that the decimal symbol separator is set to point and not comma ? This solved a similar issue I had several years ago. Worth a try. Although I think this issue has been fixed in recent versions of 3ds max...
