  • Max Hair & Fur keeping XRef Scenes from rendering

It seems that when I have the Max Hair & Fur WSM present, VRay will not render the XRef Scenes that I have loaded. On another forum someone said that things will start working again if you get rid of any VRay Light materials in the XReffed Scene, but that didn't work for me.

Hello? So... is there no solution to this issue besides not using XRef Scenes?

A little update: Using Containers instead of XRefs causes the same problem -unless I open the containers before rendering.

Hello! This should be fixed in 3ds Max 2020.3. In the main scene with xref-ed hair, Hair&Fur effect has to be added with hairs set to "mr prim".

          Hello,

You could also disable the Hair And Fur effect in the main scene to get the correct result with V-Ray. This effect is always re-created on render, so disabling the active option will get it working.

The environment is what I'm x-reffing, not the hair. Should I do it the other way around? De-activating the Hair and Fur Effect does just that. Turns it off. Switching it to mr prim didn't change anything.

Hi again. The suggested workaround was indeed for xref-ed hair and fur. I've tested the other scenario with xref-ed scene and with hair and fur in the main scene and I confirm that the xref-ed scene is not rendered. This is reproducible with Scanline as well and it's not related to V-Ray. In my tests deactivating Hair and Fur occasionally does the trick and xref-ed scene is rendered.
