  • V-Ray for 3DS Max Exporting VRmesh and VRmat issues

Hey all, at the video below I've shown my issue. I'm exporting a FBX from speedtree into 3ds max. Then exporting a vrmesh and vrmat from 3DS Max. When I import the vrmesh and vrmats into sketchup, the vrmats doesn't apply textures properly. If you look in the image, the branch material is being applied to the leaves. The transparency of the leaves is also not correct. In 3DS Max the leaves are correct. In sketchup the leaves are "blocky". Am I exporting the vrmat improperly from 3DS? Any advice would be great.

    Hi,

Could you please share the FBX file with us(at support@chaosgroup.com) so we can investigate it in detail?
If the file is too large you could use a file-sharing service of your choice and send us the link to the file.

        Hello,

Thank you for the provided files!
There is a known mismatch in ID’s when transferring materials from 3dsMax to SketchUp.
A workaround to this is to manually replace the materials in the automatically generated material after importing the Proxy in SketchUp.
The workaround to this limitation is to use .vrscene file instead of proxies(.vrmesh file) which will retain materials within the file itself.
More information regarding .vrscene files in the following link: https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/VNFS/Proxy+Scene

          Thank you Slavcho,

The issue with importing a vrscene into sketchup is that it cannot be used with the sketchup plugin called Skatter. This plugin allows you to create millions of trees, blades of grass, rocks, etc. It works with .vrmesh files perfectly fine. .vrscene files do not scatter.
