  • Can't open 10903 in 14614?

    Can't open 10903 model in 14614 build?
It crashes max with "unexpected error".

I am pretty sure it is a vray material problem? Does anybody know about this?

    Help!

A few problems like this have been reported, but I haven't been able to reproduce this. You can try to merge the scene into a new one and see if it works.

No - doesn't work on merge. It is def the materials.

I know the old wireframe mat doesn't work - there maybe some in there..... actually a very good chance - but I don't know which objects.

I have megered about 1/2 the scene - but the rest is in groups. It would be really good if I could get these in with materials. It is a large scene.

      Thanks,

Really need help on this issue.....ASAP... seems most of the models from this large project are having the problem.

Vlado- can I send you a file?

Crashing on merge - of any object - from almost any of the models.

It is definitely the old wireframe material.

Can we make a work-around for this?
Is there a way to make a script that changes the old wireframe mats to plain default on open?... or something. I guess it crashes before that would work.

dang - installed the old vray - cleaning out my models.

When does it crash? Is it right away or after it loads for awhile?

Would it work to to create an object and apply a new wire material with the same name in a clean scene and then merge the old scene in, selecting to keep scene material? Only works if you know the material is named, does max crash if the merge the scene materials as a library?

edit: I see you found a solution

I don't think it even gets that far... but that would be an idea.... no idea what the material is called in all the scenes.

It crashes as it is loading - when it hits the object, I guess.

Yes - I have crashed many a time on mat libraries. Opening a lib with the old wireframe in it. The only time vray has crashed.

You can try to send me a crashing scene and I will take a look at what's causing it.

                Best regards,

sorry to dig this up, but we are having this same problem. It means we cant open any old files to do updated work on them.

I'm looking at this right now; in the mean time, merging everything into a new scene may work...

                    Best regards,

Merging the geometry in a clean file should work fine.
