  • Big Errors in the saved files

    Hey all.

I'm stumped by something I've not come across before and I can seem to find anyone who's had the same issue.

I'm rendering out a few animations based on the same scene with basically a little bit of movement (fans spinning) and the colours of the lights changing.

Now watching the render window in max and everything seems perfect every time but when I go to the files it's saving there are all sorts of flickering errors and chunks missing. You can see it worst around the books on the left.

I've added a youtube link of an example on how bad it is. It doesn't even seem file type specific as I've exported it as jpgs, pngs, tiffs, targas at all different bit rates and I'm still getting the exact same thing.

I have run an animation pass in Irradiance Map and tried it with both Light cache and brute force. All the same results. Looks fine in max, but the saved files are trash.

    Any suggestions?

Could you send the scene to support@chaosgroup.com so we can take a look? Mention this thread in the e-mail along with your V-Ray and host platform versions.

        Hello,

Thank you for the scene file.
We have managed to reproduce your issue rendering 5 frames of the animation. The issue is mainly caused by the material used for the desk called - Grey Again Base2. The falloff map for reflection glossiness is setting very low values at some places for reflection glossiness. You can fix this by a using s medium grey color instead of the black in the falloff map. This will make the glossies reflection around 0.5. It is not recommenced using very low values for this.

Here is the result of our tests using a medium grey and white in the falloff map.

You could try optimizing your scene by increasing the lowest glossies reflection values, where there is not much visible effect in the final image.

Thank you again Martin, this works perfectly.

I will note that it produces interesting results saving to a png, it had removed sections of the render where the highlights were highest in the alpha channel so it looked like weird slices out of the geometry but saving to a different file type fixed that.
