  • Vray 5 - Denoiser

Hi everyone, I noticed that denoiser render element doesn't work the same way it did with vray Next (or at least that's what i figgurd so far). With Vray Next and progressive rendering, denoiser usually kicked in after 5-6 passes or so in the beauty pass/Effects result. Now with vray 5, and with the same settings applied (that's adding the denoiser pass / Nvidia AI denoiser engine), the denoiser never kicks in even after 100 passes. Also the the beauti pass/ Effects result is not added to the Frame buffer passes (RGB, VRayRawLight etc.).I have also tried the default V-Ray Denoise (instead of the NVIDIA, jut in case that my graphics card is not supported in the new Vray5, but still nothing. Is there something I am missing here?

    Thanks in advance!

It seems to be working fine. Does this happen in every scene or on a particular one? Bear in mind that, currently, the switch is displayed in a different manner - through the Display Correction, rather than the effectsResult channel like in NEXT (the channel is still there, however).

FYI I'm running into this problem on scenes I started in V-Ray Next. merging everything into a new scene seems to make the denoiser element update properly.

Hi thank you for responding guys. Well yes this happens in all scenes not in one in particular. The trouth is braddewald that indeed the scenes I tested were initially started in Vray Next. I will try merging into a new scene to see if there is any difference.
Worth checking if my Nvidia drives need update too?

        Thank you both

It seems to work fine with scenes from V-Ray NEXT as well. Could you share the log from one of your renderings?
Yes, it is worth checking, though from what you're saying the V-Ray denoiser does not work as well, correct? Otherwise, the latest recommended driver is written on the V-Ray GPU homepage.

Yeah, I am having a similar problem. Basically Vray 5 is not generating a denoiser element for progressive rendering.

Seems to be working fine. Does this happen in every scene? Are you certain the VRayDenoiser mode is set to generate the elements? Do send a scene to support@chaosgroup.com so we can take a look. Mention this thread in the e-mail along with your V-Ray and host platform versions.
