  • VDB crash in IPR (GPU)

I'm getting the exception below every time I try to render a scene with a vdb with the IPR on V-Ray 5 GPU.
Tried with various VDBs. And also only with the VDB, to make sure that's the problem.
Scene sent to support via GDrive.
Using the 24 June nightly of V-Ray 5 stable

It's happening with new PhoenixFD scenes too. Strangely enough, old scenes that have VDBs in them work fine. But adding a new volume grid triggers the error.

I could not reproduce a crash on my side. My log does show the export problems, though, so I guess they are not the sole cause of your crash.
I render the surface as SMOKE, as-is from the MAX scene.
Do I need to tweak some settings of the VDB object?
Can you specify driver version, graphics card etc.?

No tweak needed. New VDBs and Phoenix grids never render here. Same crash every single time whatever the settings. Only old scenes work.
Working with the Jun 24 nightly of V-Ray 5 stable, on Max 2020, with 2xRTX 2080ti, on driver 442.92. Getting the same crash whether I use RTX or Cuda.

Please try driver 442.50 as I did the tests with it and no crashes. My Config is similar, but only one 2080Ti

Will do. Is this the driver you usually recommend?

Well, when I selected the FumeFX render preset, that's when crashes begin in the same manner as you describe. Now we have some starting point.

It seems to be something to do with the volumetric render settings.

Could it be related to a 3rd party plugin that is incompatible with V-Ray 5?

I only have a few plugins and didn’t have this problem during the entire beta. Anyone in particulate you suspect?
