  • VrayBitmap - Doesn't Respect Filenames

Discovered a huge issue tonight while working on my scene. I watched a video where Vray said they recommend everybody uses VrayBitmap. That's great in theory if it worked better than normal bitmap. Right now a huge issue I found is VrayBitmap does not like a name of my map. If I use normal bitmap it works perfect, if I use VrayBitmap it literally ignored the map as if nothing is there. The weird thing is when I do distributed rendering the nodes pick it up.

The filename is ignored "dirt (7).jpg"
    The filename accepted "dirt_7.jpg"

While I know the top name is wrong in general and should not be used, the issue here is that there was no warning until I rendered a 6k image and noticed half of my floor missing textures.

Just wanted to share this as I would love for you guys to fix this as well along with the clear previous render feature. Really regret upgrading to vray5 for the perks that seem to have flaws...

      Hello,
Is there any way to convert VrayBitmap back to regular Bitmap?
      Thanks

I seem to recall a ScriptSpot script that went both ways. Maybe search there.

Hmmm, the Scriptspot's search for "VRayBitmap" brings nothing...
And manual way is too tedious.
So, hope the script will appear in the nearest future.

Perhaps under the original name VRayHDRI ? Or I am mistaken.

I wouldn't expected it from us.
It hasn't happened in a decade and a bit, i can't see why it should now.
Max bitmaps are being dropped by anyone who can (Arnold, f.e.) because they are poor in a number of ways.

                  You're right.
I redid it and it seems to be working, so weird. In my other file the default max was not respecting it but my servers were. Now seems good.
My fault on this one, should have tried to reset my scene and test before posting.

My apologies Vray admins. Please delete post.

I have a similar issue here, I want to check here before I report it as a bug.

When using VRayBitmap with UDIM file paths, I found out that the path (so far) only doesn't work with hyphens "-" in the file name. I can load ex. "filename-1.1001.png" into VRayBitmap and render correctly, but as soon as I change the path to "filename-1.<UDIM>.png" it will render every textures with that path black. If I change the filenames into "filename1.<UDIM>.png", it will work.

Does this also happen to you guys?

alienboy Just tested it (latest offical V-Ray build) with "filename-1.<UDIM>.png" and it seems to work as expected. Check your spelling; maybe there is a difference in hyphens in the keyboard (language) you're on.
