  • V-Ray 5 scene preparation times noticeably increased compared to v3.7

Hello, currently I´m comparing the renderspeeds of V-Ray 3 and V-Ray 5, because I considered upgrading.
But to be honest, at the moment I don´t see any reason, because the price has increased disproportionate, the renderspeeds are nearly identical (I mainly use brute force) and the scene preparation times (especially "Compiling geometry") have even more than doubled, what means that it´s unusable for us.

And just to mention it, 2014 the upgrade from V-Ray 2 to V-Ray 3 (with 10 Rendernodes) cost 590 Euros and now a V-Ray 5 License with 10 rendernodes would cost 4080 Euros! And no upgrade option. Sorry, but this is just a rip off and a slap in the face for the loyal customers who have supported you over the years. If it would cost 1.500 it´s still a lot but fair.

We do not experience that kind of increase at all (certainly not across the board, as you seem to imply.).
Would it be possible for you to send a scene to Support, so we may figure out what it is that's causing it?

Thank you, I will prepare a scene and send it to you. Yes, I can confirm that, it`s especially noticable in heavy scenes with many high poly objects. Low poly scenes are not affected, but in complex scenes it`s even more important that the performance is good.

        I totally agree.

I´ve sent you an e-mail with the download link. In this example the compiling geometry step is even 5 times slower.

            It's being investigated, thank you.

I found the problem, trying to figure out how to solve it now

              Best regards,

we usually work with very heavy scenes too, so I would be interested to see if the fix will help our scenes ( I haven't noticed the slowdown, but I didn't do any comparison to make sure )
Please update this topic when you have new build with a fix .
                Thank you .

Simply, I love to put pixels together! Sounds easy right : ))

Should you need any other scene as well, please tell me. We got one monster here sitting at around 15gb when saved as .max

It's quite specific to some setup, not a general situation (i.e. it's not polycount per se, no worries.).
This said, of course if you see stuff slowing down unreasonably, yell!
