  • Vray 5 - VFB History not updating after render

I have some very strange behaviour in the VFB History panel.
With Auto save option enabled, at the end of a render the list is not updated with the last render.
I tried to change the history folder and then switch back again to the original but doing so all the thumbnail are grayed out but if I click on them the correct image is loaded.
If I open an other session of 3dsmax I see all the previous renders in the list.
    Any suggestion/update to do?

    Working on 3dsmax 2020 and Vray 5 hotfix 2.
    Thanks for the help!
    Ale

Does this happen on every scene (even empty ones)? Could you share a screencap of your VFB History settings?

Yes it happens on every scene.
Also in a new one, if I switch of folder then the thumbnails are grey but if I double click on them the image appear in the VFB.

Could it be because you reached the max history size? Does it help if you change history folder, or raise the max size in the settings?

If the maximum size is reached, then the VFB should delete (actually move to the Recycle Bin) some of the old images to free up space.

          Best regards,

I made some test and it seems the problem is not related with the disk space. When the thumbnails are grayed out they are only "hidden" because if I click on the list they are correctly loaded in the VFB.
I will try to reinstall Vray and will let you know if the problem persist.

              Super odd.
Thanks for the testing, keep us up to date!

We have the same problem on 3 PC's. all fresh fully reinstalled. Also we cannot close max from x button, only from task manager on Max 2021 and Vray 5 . Any solution?

It smells like user rights to me, could it be that?

same exact thing here. It happened about a week ago, but everything up until then was fine. Can't see VFB history until closed and reopen scene, and 3ds max freezes when trying to close the application. Reinstalled VRAY and updated Max, no bueno

I fixed the problem. The vfb folder was way over the limit i had set in the vfb settings, so i'm guessing it does not auto delete older files in VRAY 5. I switched the vfb history folder to a new one, deleted the contents of the original, then switched back. after a max restart, everything went back to normal. I can now save to VFB and close out of the program without freezing.

                        Whacky.
What would have caused the OS to fiddle with rights (as i assume that's what happened cleaning the history files which the max process couldn't.) like so?
Is it a multi-user PC? Did you get a surreptitious update recently?

Hi guys, i'm having trouble finding this info online.

I know it may differ from hardware to hardware, but what is proper value for the maximum size on the VFB history?

I have set mine to 25.000 MB and it keeps deleting my old renders on VFB history after one or 2 renders in batch rendering.

They are big renders for VR headset content (8000 x 4000) but i suppose that at a 25.000 MB maximum size they would keep saved on history, no?

Thanks in advance for the feedback

That is the maximum allowed size.
If the drive doesn't have space, then the VFB may be forced to delete the old stuff.

Thanks for that, but the settings allow you to go up to 50.000 MB (that i have not tried yet), right?

Also the drive has 114 GB free space available, that is why i do not understand the issue
