  • Viz 2006 - Multi/Sub Object Vray materials

When I create a multi/sub object material with Vray mats, it will not allow me to drag one of the Vray mats into a new material slot. It doesn't do anything at all and also jumps the cpu usage to about 40% until I close it and then it gives me an error message.

Using a standard material works just fine.

It also won't let you drag Vray materials within the multi/sub object material either. This is a really big problem!

Well at least I can right click cut/copy/paste, but whenever I do this it's still jumping the cpu to 40-50% and giving the error message when I close it.

Thanks for the pointer; I suppose we'll have to get viz2006 to check all those problems... they don't appear in max7.

        Best regards,
        Vlado

Actually, I'm getting this in max7.5 too.

When a specific multisub is selected in the matEd, cpu jumps to 40%/50% and the buttons etc load in very slowly. The weird part is, it doesn't happen on all multisub materials. Sometimes if I create a new multisub and transfer the materials over, it works.... but sometimes it doesn't.

          Here's the file:
          http://www.collective-expressions.co...tisub_chug.zip

Open the MatEd and select the first material and see if the problem occurs.

          I'm on:
          max7.5, VRay 1.47.02, Windows XP SP2
          p4 3.4 ghz, 1gb ram, geforce 5750

EDIT: I should also add that I'm not getting an error message, the cpu usage just jumps up and stays at 50%.

Please do Vlado. This is making it nearly impossible to work. Viz users are people too!

I've found that the cpu usage will go back to normal once you close the material editor.

                Solved for now!!!

I installed the latest 1.46 build instead of 1.47 and all of the problems I have been having seem to be gone! So there must be some change in the latest build thats affecting the mult/sub object mats & also the bitmaps disappearing.

Thanks for the scene, I can reproduce that here and I'm looking into it.

cheersw for the heads up. fortunately i've been too busy to install viz2006 yet - i think i'll hang back a while before doing so although i'm itching to try out some of the new features, especially the first person camera.

do you think these mapping problems somehow relate to the world map scale that's been implemented with viz2006?

The multi/subobject bug is fixed now in 1.47.03 on the site; I am not sure about the texture maps though. It may be a related issue, or it may be something different; I can't reproduce it here in 3dsmax.

                      Best regards,
