  • Vray not rendering scene - error message "failed to allocate..."

    Hello guys,

I am having a Max scene with very highres textures, and cannot get it to render via GPU, the following error message I am getting:

[2020/Oct/27|11:30:01] error: Failed to allocate 22020096 bytes, device 1, buffer default bufname
[2020/Oct/27|11:30:01] error: D:\cgrepo\vraysdk\samples\vray_plugins\rt_private\ rt_opencl_pri(3742) : CUDA error 2 : unable to allocate enough memory to perform the requested operation (out-of-mem)

Could this be related to texture sizes? I am using a RTX 8GB card in that particular machine...

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Hi Martin

It may be exactly what you are guessing. Can you make sure that the GPU Textures are set to On-demand mip-mapped instead of Full-size and see if the issue persists? You can read more here: https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/VMAX/GPU+Textures

We've also got a very detailed article on Memory Usage Optimizations for GPU Rendering, you might want to check it out.
