  • Flickering Shadows

    Hi guys,

I'm getting different shadows on each frame on an animation, resulting in a flickering result.

I've set my GI to BruteForce and Light Cache here:

I also tried and changed it to Irradiance and Light Cache with the mode set to incremental, looks better but same issue.

    Any idea?

    Thanks!

So if you use brute force and LC, this should not happen. What were your settings? In LC you can chose use camera path and save the cache from first frame into file, then switch to using that cache for entire camera move. Try that as an option

mossawi, can you let me know your V-Ray/3ds max version? When setting the BF/LC, please also set Light Cache to Animation preset (or use Subdivs: 3000/Retrace: 8 ). Alternatively, you can send your scene to support@chaosgroup.com for further investigation. Thanks!

        Thanks guys!

I'm using Vray 5 latest build, and Max 2021, I've set the LC to animation but lowered my subdivs for faster render time, could that be it?

Please see the scene here, you can see the flickering on the shoe itself still happening:

In the file you shared, it appears that you are, indeed, using the Animation preset but the Retrace option is turned off. Please make sure to turn it on again, and that should do the trick (at least it is working fine in my test - see sample). Let me know if that helps.
