  • VrayMtlWrapper halo issue

    Dear Vray users
I'm trying to consolidate my photo-matching workflow and I'm pretty satisfied with the results, except for a strange halo that you can see in the attached image.
This artifact appears when I turn on the reflection of the material connected to VRayMtlWrapper applied to a simple plane under my cg objects for catching shadows and reflections.
With just shadows, everything works fine.
I suppose that just the objects reflections should be visible on my matte floor instead of the reflections of the floor itself, am I wrong?

    Thanks

    AC

It looks like it is the reflection of the environment or GI that doesn't show up on the rest as it is lost in the general colour.
Does it matter if there is nothing in that area that needs reflection?
You can see that the matte plane does not match the tabletop shape exactly, so you could adjust it to match if necessary or chop it out in post

Exclude the matte plane in the domelight. Possibly the domelight is reflecting in the plane as well, hence the brightening along the edge.

kosso_olli thanks for your advice, actually excluding the plane from dome reflection seems to fix the reflection problem but it introduces another problem, shadows on the plane completely disappear :/

You are right. Sorry, I did not think of that.

I guess you can create a second dome just to control the reflections. Disable the "affect diffuse" option and excludes the matte plane. The first dome should have disabled "affect reflections".

hermit.crab It works, I have created two domes, in the first one I have disabled affect specular, in the second one I have excluded the matte plane from illumination and shadows casting and also deselected affect diffuse. Is this the right procedure or is it something you should fix?

Nothing seems to be out of order, the plane (which is a bit off) reflects the dome's light. The suggestion was for your specific scenario.
