  • Weird Repeating Quad menu Issue

Hey everyone. I am having this weird repeating quad menu issue with vray 5 hotfix 2 for 3ds max 2021 on the latest service pack. Not sure how to fix it. I reset the INI file, nothing changed. I have reinstalled vray and it is still there. I can use vray fine and everything seems normal aside from this. Any help?

    Thanks!

Try resetting your 3ds max preferences to their defaults by renaming the ENU folder to ENU_old (C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Autodesk\3dsMax \2021 - 64bit). Upon starting 3ds max, a new ENU folder will be created with the default preferences. This would remove any customizations you might have set, however.

This seems to have fixed the issue.

      Thanks!

this initially fixed the issue but it just started happening again where the menu is now full of "Missing Vray" functions. I noticed this after I lost license the other day. Any thoughts? I would hate to have to continuously delete ENU folders.

        Thanks!

Hi, I've found a problem with the script that installs the quad menu (and other menus too) items. When there is no user configuration e.g. shiny new installation or the ENU folder is being deleted and the menu registration is performed (new V-Ray installation or through the toolbar button). The script relies on a MXS function menuMan.getMenuFile() which in these rare cases returns the path to the file but in the Program Files directory. So writing it there will make the registered menus re-appear even with the ENU directory deleted.

So if you have a this file "C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 20*\en-US\UI\MaxStartUI.mnux" try to move it somewhere else, but I believe it won't be needed.

This may not fix the repeated items, but first check if they are still present and then if they are try removing the the ENU directory and the MaxStartUI.mnux again. This should remove them completely.

Please take care to not re-install V-Ray when the ENU directory is deleted as this will produce the "C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 20*\en-US\UI\MaxStartUI.mnux" file again.

In the meantime I'll fix it in the script to not write this file anymore as it's generally wrong too.

          Best regards,
          Alexander
