ok sorry for the delay, ive been up to my eyeballs in work.
turns out the bug is due to using an environment fog. if i disable the fog, the lights become invisible once more... ill send you a test scene to show what i mean...
well even though ive tracked down the cause, its still a bug!
note that they also show up in the alpha channel, and are shaded differently to the rest of the scene.
