  • massive slowdown with objects inside vray sphere light

ive got an earth model and some satellites.. scene has no GI, so to get a bit of light coming from earth, i placed a vray sphere light aligned to earth axis, then made it slightly bigger than earth. set to invisible, and set to EXCLUDE earth and atmosphere etc

(it should only affect satellites with a nice blue wash)

rendertimes went from 12 mins to an estimated 8 hrs..

hiding satellite (so light affecting nothing) still 8 hrs eta.

hide light, rendertimes back to normal.

shrink light so its just inside earth surface instead of around it, resolved issue and looks identical.

why on earth should this cause a slowdown?

    Hello,

Thanks for the feedback. I've managed to reproduce the slowdown in a simple scene and also have informed our developers on the matter (internal bug tracker ID: VMAX-1065 )

    Best regards,

      Hello super gnu ,

We've made several improvements which might affect indirectly the afore-mentioned slowdown. Would it be possible to provide a scene sample to philip.shounev@chaos.com so that we can run our tests and evaluate if there's an actual performance improvement with this particular scene ?

      Best,
      Philip
