  • Vray 5.1 Bugs

    Hi Together,

first i´d like to say thanks for that great update and it optimized some workflows alot!

it seams that the new override modul has a little bug. if a vrayBump Material overrides the scene max is crashing.
and on onother scene i got GPU crashes all the time. please se the lo screen attached.

    many thanks!

    bye
    jens

    Hi Jens,

I can't seem to reproduce any crashes if I use VRayBumpMtl in the override slot, can you let me know what are you using for Base mtl and Bump map - any screenshots/screen recordings would be of great help, thanks. http://ftp.chaosgroup.com/support/sc...4_20-55-58.mp4

Regarding the CUDA error messages/Unhandled Exception - can you try to download the latest recommended NVIDIA drivers, described in our V-Ray GPU page and give it a try?

Unhandled Exception errors are generally related to memory issues.
Can you share more details regarding the OS version, CPU, GPU details as well?

Best would be to forward us the scene file in question so we can test and see if we can reproduce the issue. You can reach us through our contact form, just make sure to mention this thread in the email. Thanks!

      Hi Nikoleta,

thanks for the detailed reply. i try to prepare you a scene file for both issues tomorrow.
for the GPU i found out that it only happens in bucket mode, on progressive all is rendering fine.

      my system is:

      AMD Ryzen 9 3900X 12Core
      2x RTX 2080TI 11GB
      Win10Pro
      Nvidia Studio Driver 461.40

      Many Thanks!
      bye,
      Jens

Hi Jens, thanks for the additional information - we'll be expecting a scene file to check as well.

          hi nikoleta,

i tried to test something and actually the GPU crash is gone after reboot the system. i could only say it was only there for the bucket mode so far.

for the override issues i sadly cant provide you a scene file because of NDA. i captured a sequ for you.

here you can see the override thing seems to be depends on one object file, with vraybump and the object it is crashing and without not. the object cames from imported CAD File and runs perfectly unter the previos vray version.

          bye,

            Hi Jens,

So it appears to be something linked with the specific object, as I still cannot reproduce such crashes (even with the ComplexFresnel plugin): http://ftp.chaosgroup.com/support/sc...6_14-33-14.mp4

It would greatly help us to debug this if you can share a sample for us to test. We can sign an NDA if needed.

              Hi Jens,

Thank you for providing the files over. It appears that the crash is occurring when there are two instances of VRayBumpMtl used - one applied to the object in question, and another used as an Override mtl. It is happening both on CPU/GPU and Progressive or Bucket rendering mode.

If you apply, for example, a VrayMtl to the object, the crash will not reproduce.

I've logged this in our internal bug-tracking system under VMAX-10817 for developers to have a look. Will let you know as soon as there are any updates on the matter.

For the time being, if you want to use the VRayBumpMtl as an Override, please make sure that there are no similar setups applied to an object beforehand.

              Thanks for the pointer!
