This whole thread is extremely confusing. I do not think these problems are related to one another at all.

But they are. I removed the displacement shift and no more crashes. I put it back on, render, and it crashes and doesn't open again with the same isolation stuck screen.Bobby Parker

I spoke too soon. It still crashed and wouldn't open with the isolated message. I removed the displacement altogether with and it is rendering now. Thankfully, with this material at this distance, I don't really need the displacement. For the record, I rendered, closed MAX, and opened it again just fine.Bobby Parker

It does sound like it isn't connected but then there seems to be a connection somehow...so a bit of a paradox...unless...
Just a wild thought; The thing that you are rendering, which is isolated, has displacement on it that 'may' be causing the error - so could it be that that displacement is
referencing something that is 'not' isolated and so causing some weird loop....something along those lines..
It's hard trying solve these things without any actual scene to investigate, so maybe it'll remain a mystery

The isolation thing makes no sense anyway. There isn't anything isolated and every MAX file I open has it. I reported that to AD many times, but I never got any replies. I'll record something when I have time.Bobby Parker

Aah I see....so it's literally every file you open triggers that popup....no connection to displacement then lol.
Given that there is no text or button I reckon it's a conflict, or a tear in the the Matrix
...just do a reinstall of Max after deleting all the leftover stuff.
At least then you can install whatever plugs/scripts you use, one by one, testing until you hopefully find the culprit that is causing
the conflict.
