  • V-Ray toolbar buttons missing

Hello everyone, I have an issue with the V-Ray toolbar in 3dsMax 2021 (with V-Ray 5, update 1.1). Many buttons are missing and clicking on them doesn't do anything.
    I tried re-installing V-Ray but it didn't change anything.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,

Thanks for your answer but I already tried this twice.
After downloading the 3dsMax 2021 updates, I try to install them and I get an error window saying that at least one of the files in the download cannot be found, so I can't go any further.
See attached file for error message (in french).

As for uninstalling VRay I already did that but it didn't change anything.

It seems like a bad 3ds Max install. You may try to repair it through the Autodesk installer. Otherwise, try cleaning up everything and re-install.

Hi again, I have now installed 3dsMax 2022 (twice) et re-installed V-Ray 5 and I still have the same problem.
When the V-Ray toolbar is docked on the left, many buttons are missing.
When it's not docked on the left, I can see the missing buttons but the toolbar also has an extra set of missing buttons...(see attached files).
          Any other ideas anyone?

          Thanks,

Actually all buttons seem to be present (when horizontal). The missing ones seem like a duplicate or something of the sort. I've seen this when installing from a zip file. Is this your case? If so, check the limitations of the method on this documentation page.
Also, you may try disabling any other third-party plugins and resetting any kind of preferences, which might have been set and see if that makes any difference.

No the install wasn't from a zip file, I had just downloaded the app from the chaosgroup site (V-Ray 5 for 3dsMax 2020, update 1.2).
As for the limitations, I just read the section where it says ''To make the icons appear, they must be copied to the 3dsMax...'', but I just don't understand what I need to copy exactly?
I will try disabling 3rd party plugins and resetting preferences and get back to you to give you the result.
              Thanks,

                Thanks,
I know this is an old thread, but it didn't seem solved so I thought I share my thoughts.
I had the very same problem. I located the problem in the CUI.

When I had renamed the %localappdata%\Autodesk\3dsMax\2022 - 64bit\ENU folder (ie "removed" it) and then started Max, everything worked as expected.
But as soon I loaded my Custom UI Scheme, the toolbar got messed up again.

I haven't solved it in that sense so that I can use my stored UI together with the Vray toolbar, but at least I know the reason for the problem. There might be a chance to start from scratch, building my custom UI bit by bit and make it work together with the Vray toolbar.
                Kindly,
                Haider

Here is the final solution, which was rather quick and I didn't have to rebuild my custom UI from scratch
                  • I renamed the %localappdata%\Autodesk\3dsMax\2022 - 64bit\ENU\en-US\UI folder - this removed all possible stored settings that has to do with the V-Ray Toolbar
                  • Since I use to save my User Interface and User Scheme, the bug resided in there:
                  • So I searched for every occurrence of "V-Ray Toolbar" in all files, usually a *.cuix file, and erased it.
                  • I uninstalled Vray, just to be sure (maybe this step wasn't even necessary)
                  • I launched max to make sure no leftovers of the V-Ray toolbar were still there.
                  • Reinstalled.V-Ray

                  Works great now!
                  Kindly,
                  Haider
