  • Different reflection when rendering in different resolution

I have a material that Im rendering using Vray Standalone 5.00.05 and Im getting different results in the reflection when I render in different resolutions which is really weird.
You can download the test scenes here

Here you can see the difference in the renders.
One is rendered with 512x512 and the other is rendered with 2048x2048 and then resized to 512x512. The one rendered with 512x512 has higher reflection than the highres render

Very interesting and totally weird. It explains why I had to change some shaders in a recent job. I thought I had made mistakes, as I tested everything at a lower resolution, then when it came to doing the final high resolutions
all the reflections had changed. This surely can't be expected beahaviour. Thanks for posting. Hopefully it'll count as a crucial fix

I've narrowed the problem to be with the Bump map slot. If I remove that node it renders the same on different resolutions. I tested in the 3ds max IPR, resizing it up and down.

That's odd....I didn't have anything in the bump but still saw the difference.
I actually was thinking it may be something to do with the normal map, as that was the thing that was
similar in the project I mentioned.

This is likely caused by bitmap blur value being too high. Set it to zero.

Hm, can't seem to reproduce this on a simple scene (even though rendering your files I get the same issue). Is it possible to attach the .max file so we can check the complete setup and see if we're missing something out? Alternatively, you can forward it through our contact form.
fixeighted, since you mentioned you've encountered this as well on a different setup, it would be great if you could provide a sample scene. It might be a combination of things causing this.

I will try, although the project is finished and I'd need to go back and try to recreate it, which at the moment I can't do, as I'm into another project.

still getting better results with no filtering than new default filter type?
