  • Update 2 causing Forest Pack Pro to not render grass

    Working on a project which uses a fair bit of Forest Pack Pro's scattering (grass, trees etc).

    Was working fine with V-Ray 5.10.

    Updated to V-Ray 5.2 and the grass was coming out wrong.

    Went back to 5.10 and the grass is working fine again.

    Don't have time to program test, just thought I'd mention this as happening to me.

    Thank you, Jez. I wanted install it today, now I will wait. Can not deal with this during running projects. BTW, in you signaturure you wrote, you use 128 GB RAM. In my two machines I have 32GB and I have ordered a new one with also 32 GB. I never had filled the memory full up. How much is your memory used in heavy scenes?

      Yeah, I bought the 128Gb for a Cruise Ship Pheonix FD simulation I did a while ago - that was running out of ram when I had 64Gb at the time...

      On this particular project I am working on, doing a render right now, my usage is as follows;

      Ram 74Gb
      GPU1 23.7Gb
      GPU2 18.7Gb.

      I'm doing GPU rendering - and it's with just 3DS Max open only.

        Hey Jez,

        Can you define "coming out wrong"? Of course a simple scene will help us the most.

        p.s. one little note - it's 5.1.2, this is still Update 1 but Hotfix 2

        If it was that easy, it would have already been done

          Sorry Peter, I was under pressure with this project, so I wasn't paying attention to exact version numbers.

          I'm currently rendering right now with Update 1, Hotfix 1 and will reinstall Hotfix 2 in around 10 minutes and will re-render and see if it is truly an issue with the Hotfix. It definitely was the only thing I'd changed yesterday but maybe a restart of the computer might somehow help

          I'll report back in within the hour.

            Hi Peter,

            I tried 5.1 Hotfix 2 and as you can see in the attached work in progress image, the grass is completely different / wrong etc. I cannot describe what it going on, sorry!

            This is a large project file, I'll see if I can find time to send you something over the weekend.

              Ok, we'll try to reproduce it here. Is this some of the built-in presets? Also CPU or GPU?

                Grass Layer is preset if I remember correctly (sorry, not at computer)

                      It's export-related, so GPU and Cloud. Regular V-Ray in Max is fine.
