  • lens effects broken on 6x1 cube map zenith

Something very strange is happening with lens effect at the zenith when using a 6x1 cube camera. It's appearing stretched and completely wrong. Using latest v5 hotfix.

Here's an example using 2 different settings for demonstration purposes.

Sorry to say, it is a limitation of the 6x1 camera's work method. It works by creating a 360 panorama (which introduces distortions around the poles) and afterward converting it to 6x1.

Then why isn't the geometry distorted too?

justini It concerns the lens effect post-render effect with 6x1 only.

I see. So is this lmitation acceptable or is it going to be addressed?

The limitation is embedded in the math itself, meaning that a rewrite of the lens effects would be required to resolve it. You may try using the vdenoise.exe tool to apply the lens effects to the already completed 6x1 render.

Does this tool use different math? If so, wIll it still respect the cube face boundaries?

The math is the same, however, the camera type is considered when applying the effect in the VFB. Applying the lens effects through the tool does yield undistorted glare, however, the cube face boundaries are not respected (this is why I suggested testing it). You may use the glare effect and mask it for the map at the zenith in post, though.
