  • 3ds max 2022 is not saving UI settings after V-ray 5 installed

    Hi,

I have problem saving the interface settings, like Snap settings and material interface settings. Toolbars and custom buttons are fine only the settings are resetting to default on every startup.
This is happening after installing V-ray 5 for 3ds max 2022. I did uninstall Vray and I can save the settings with the interface without any problem.

Can anyone help, it is really annoying.

    Thanks!

Hi, this was discussed in length over at the 3dsMax user and beta forums. Autodesk and Chaos are aware of this issue, but I am uncertain who is going to fix it. It seems both companies are accusing each other for the fault.
We have the same issues which are hugely annoying, and it keeps us from using V-Ray 5 (again, it has been out over a year and still is not usable)

Waaw good thing I'm reading this because I was about to install 2022 and remove 2020. Guess I'll have to wait.

Yeah, 2022 is a mess. Perspective match tool is broken as well.

That's a shame cause I was looking forward using the improved modifiers: relax, retopology (don't know why the hell they don't include it in the default setup, doesn't make sense), etc...

Never use perspective match though I never get the results I need, manual matching gives me better faster results....

As far as I know, this is not fixed yet. Whoever does the fixing...

Probably not the best workaround, but if you uninstall vray5 temporarily, max ui saves normally again... so we did the settings and installed Vray5 back...

Thanks solidscope , sounds like an ideal solution until they....whoever 'they' is ....fixes it permanently

I jut wrote a few lines of python to get all windows handles, check their title, if title are material editor or render setup, I get their position/size and write 3dsmax.ini file accordingly.
Now I open dialogs in max, run the python script externally, close max, re-open max, and my dialogs are in right position.

Strange that such simple thing can't be done by max ...

Also on two monitor setup, render setup dialog can't re-open on second monitor, always goes to the right of the first (left) monitor.
                      Go figure ...

                        Autodesk knows about this already.

Autodesk is working on a fix for the UI saving issue. Expect a workaround published from their side until the fix is ready.
If it was that easy, it would have already been done

I had the same issue with the UI not saving and received a Maxscript directly from Autodesk, after discussing it in length!
I'm still using max 2021 so I haven't had a chance to test it properly, but it seems to work.

It seems I can't upload an MS file here. Chaos let me know if you want me to email to you.
