  • vray scene convertor not converting adesk materials

I have a model that was created by others in Revit and exported as .fbx for me to refine and render. All of the materials applied in Revit are included in the .fbx file. these are all autodesk Generic, Autdesk Metal and etc. Some are multi sub-object others are single object materials. I have ran vray scene convertor several times with all options checked except for "convert selected nodes only". None of the materials get converted to Vray materials. The only thing that seems to happen is if the Autodesk material has a bitmap, then that bitmap gets converted to a vray bitmap.

A very unfortunate side effect of this is that IPR wil crash Max everytime if any Autodesk materials are present. So impossible to use IPR until all materials are manually converted to vray materials.

See this page containing a list of what materials are converted through the V-Ray scene converter. In your case, you should use the 3ds Max scene converter (Rendering>Scene Converter) to convert all Revit materials to Standard ones, and afterward use the V-Ray scene converter (or add a Standard to VRayMtl rule in the native converter).

Thank you aleksandar. I do not seem to be able to get the 3DS Max scene converter to convert the imported autodesk/revit materials to standard materials. That choice does not seem to be available.

Odd. Are you using 3ds max 2021 as described in your signature? See the screencap for a detailed look at the procedure.

Yes I am using 2021. I was not understanding how to use the 3DS Max scene converter correctly. Your screen shot was a great help and education. Solved my issue and saved me a whole lot of painstaking, tedious, manual conversion. Thanks!!!
