  • BUG: Netrender & Displacement

    Hello,

    Please look at this http://www.rezn8.com/images/Rezn8_VR...render_Bug.jpg

This is what we get whenever we netrender vray with an object that has displacement. It's been like this for a long time (many builds). Every job finishes eventually, but as you can see from the image, there are lots of errors slowing it down. This is becoming a really bad problem for us...perhaps this is a known bug and there are work-arounds?

    Thank you,
    Bill Dahlinger

do your netrender nodes have the 3gb switch enabled? I get tons of errors like that and I dont even have to be using displacement. I dont get the error locally because my local machine has the 3gb switch, but have been unable to get the switch to work on the renderfarm...

Its incredibly frustrating when your memory only hits like 1.3 gb and gets exceptions....

      Thanks Percy,

Nope, not using the 3gb switch. But I will watch memory usage next time, see if it is capping out. The displacements I am doing are pretty simple.

try swapping switches on dynamic mem and static mem

Bill, you may simply be running out of memory; you can check the memory usage on the render nodes and look at the vraylog.txt file to see if it contains anything useful.

When you render on a single workstation and have lots or big textures, you can usually reduce rendering memory requirements a lot by turning on the Bitmap pager in 3dsmax, but I am not sure if this option is transferred over to the render slaves and how you can control it.

          Best regards,
          Vlado
