Merging objects without textures

So any ideas why this happens sometimes? Seems completely random. When I merge an object or a group from another file I get materials without textures. It's really fun when I realize this after I've arranged everything. The problem is that even the texture path is missing so can't really relink them.
It was like that on MAX 2015 and is now on 2021...same with vray. So not sure who is the culprit.

Seems to work fine from what I tested. Does it happen with every scene? How exactly are you merging the object/scene?

It's completely random. Sometimes when I merge stuff I bought online sometimes from my other projects. When this happens I just delete and merge again and it's ok.

it should be that if you drag/drop merge then it doesn't link the textures, only if you merge from the menu
