  • Lens Effects and Glare RenderElement are missing when rendering a VRayNext scene with VRay5

    Hi!

    When I render a scene with VRay5 which was originally setuped with VRayNext, where I had active Lens Effects and Glare RenderElement enabled, these Effects and RenderElement are automatically OFF in VRay5 and with that missing in the renderoutput.
    I simply switched from VRayNext to VRay5 and rendered the scene via Deadline. No changes made in the scene.

    When I re-enable the LensEffects and the Glare RenderElement in new VRay5 VFB, everything works. Too bad, that VRay5 does not automatically adopt this setting from VRayNext.

    ... Now I have to re-render everything ...

    Hope for a fix. Thank you!

    EDIT: I think there is a problem with the "Save glare channel" hook to be checked when loading an RPS (renderpreset) file from VRayNext into VRay5.

    Also it seems that the Glare is not saved with the right intensity anymore. Even if I set Intensity to 5.0 in VFB, the glare in the final network render looks like an intensity of 1.0 in EffectsResult pass as well as in Glare RenderElement. Can anyone confirm?

      Yes in the new frame buffer the glare element is always calculated and saved at intensity 1.0. The intensity is a plain multiplier and in this way you can change it later without recalculating the effect itself.

        So when I use grade node in nuke and raise the glare channel by the multiply parameter with a value of 5.0 I will get the same result as when I set the intensity in VFB to 5.0?

          Yep - internally the new VFB does:
          final = RGB + (Glare * Intensity)

            But shouldn't the LensEffects result be saved in EffectsResult renderelement as well? Like the denoiser? ... In VRayNEXT the the LensEffects were saved with the desired intensity into effects result, so that you have a nice RGB image. Now in VRay5, as it is just comped with intensity 1.0 via VFB, I have to recompose it in the post with the right intensity. The problem is, in LookDev when I set my intensity in VFB to the desired value, everything looks fine. I think its odd when my network rendering looks different to what I setuped in VFV locally and I just can it bring with extra compositing / grading. Mmmmmmhhh ...

              Hm I'm trying it out here on a simple scene and lens effects are saved with the required intensity in the effects result channel together with the denoiser? How are you saving? If you are using the raw output in the frame buffer options - did you turn on the "Save VFB color corrections to RGB channel" option ?

                I send the shot to deadline and network render manager saves the file to renderoutput location as 16-bit half float EXR. When I render locally the image looks fine.

                  There's a note about Deadline in the docs: https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...ctsLayer-Notes
                  Hope it helps

                    Allright! Thank you for pointing me to this. Anyway - it is odd, that it worked with VRayNext and now witrh VRay5 it doesn't. I made no changes. On 1 day I sent with VRayNEXT to deadline, then we switched to VRay5 and on the other day i sent with VRay5. Anyway I have already setuped the comp pipline now to adjust the intensity in the post. But I will try it as a test. - Thanks!
