I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong with basic opacity mapping.

I have alawys used the same method but not it doesn't work. I know I am not using the correct settigns somewhere but can't figure out where.

I have a map I have used for many years. for instance a cutout of a person or a tree. tree.tif. it has alpha channel. Using vray material I set diffuse color to black and reflections to black. I put the map in the diffuse slot and also in the opacity slot. In the opacity slot I set filtering to none and alpha source to image alpha. What I get is a bunch of dots. The opacity map generates the diffuse as a bunck of dots. I have tried the various opacity modes like clip and stochastic. that does not help.

I don't get it. This used to be so easy. What am I missing?

    TIA for any help.

cancel this. I somehow got it working sheesh. maybe had to do with setting mono channel output to alpha in the opacity map. not sure.
