  • Light select issues on Vray GPU

    Hello,

I'm having issues trying to render light selects on GPU with my scene, I get this LC error

Scene file here, you might need to relink the VRscans files in slate editor

    Nvidia Studio driver 471.11
    Windows 10 21H1
    RTX 3060 12 GB

Now, when I turn off GPU LC the image renders black .. after the LC passes is calculated on CPU

This behavior happens on using Light Mix render element as well,

I tried to render at 50% resolution with GPU LC, I don't get an error but the Light Select elements have those black dots

    Hi Muhammed_Hamed,

Thank you for providing the scene files. Upon initial testing with GPU Light Cache off, everything rendered fine after the LC was calculated on CPU. Tested with RTX 3070Ti/471.11 driver version. We will additionally test with GPU Light Cache enabled and try to repro those issues. Will let you know as soon as we have or need more info.

Thanks for taking a look, nikoleta.garkova

I'm able to render the scene now with GPU LC off like what you explained. For this to work, I need to not try GPU LC at all .. Any testing with GPU LC, then swapped to CPU LC I get a black result (the LC pass renders fine then RGB beauty looks all black)

At least now I can use Light Selects and Light Mix, this is going to get the job done..

      Best,

Update, rendering with CPU LC I still get the black artifacts in light selects. I'm not able to use light selects or light mix with this scene

Unfortunately, we were not able to reproduce such issues on our side rendering both on GPU LC or CPU LC, all seem to render fine (see attached screencap). Driver version was 471.11 with the same V-Ray build linked in this thread. We can investigate this additionally on our scheduled remote session.

            To leave an update here:

It looks like some specific vrscanned materials are causing NaN values on some pixels in the LightSelect REs (doesn't matter if it is rendered on 50% or full resolution). We'll investigate that further.
GPU Light Cache off didn't produce black renders after CPU LC passes successfully (maybe a max restart is necessary after receiving the initial error).
And GPU Light Cache did not initialize due to insufficient memory, presumably.

I'll have a talk with our developers regarding the VRscans and will let you know when I get more input. Thanks for the understanding and patience!

Yup, it is the case. removing some render elements frees up some memory and doesn't crash at 4k, like how we tested last week. It seems like GPU LC needs memory optimization on high resolution renders honestly, I will optimize the scene and textures for that

              Best,

And the VRscans issue is fixed in our latest internal nightly builds, so it should be out with a future update.
