  • Bump and Normal Map

Hi, I have some weird issue with the bump and normal map.
    I made a checker bitmap 1000x1000 pixel 1/1.
I you zoom into the pixel the bump map is blurry. I know you can turn off the filter and it works good on the diffuse map but not on the bump map.

The second problem that I have is the normal map.The reflection light moves from the normal value.

I can't repro the issue with the bump map here, but you may have generally better luck using a vrayBitmap instead of a max bitmap loader.
Feel free to mail me a scene which reproes the issue, so i can look into it more closely.
As for the normal map, that looks like working fine: changing the multiplier from its default of 1.0 multiplies the vectors, so ofc the highlight moves around.
Past a certain value, the vectors cease to be meaningful for shading.
Unless i misunderstood what you meant.

      Thanks for the reply ^Lele^

Here is the checker file and the video, zoom in until you see the pixels in Vray.

Did I miss the filter off options in the VrayBitmap ?

Sharp Isotropic is much better at retaining pixel-sized detail, but you can also reduce filtering to 0.01 like in the standard bitmap.
It looks indeed much better with a vraybitmap than with a max one.
I'll poke the devs to ask if it is a bug or a limitation, meanwhile.

Fair warning: with detail this fine, turning filtering off will force a lot more sampling, as the detail will be roughly the same size as noise, or smaller.
Keep some filtering active whenever possible.

          Thanks ^Lele^
I tried different settings, this is the sharpened bump I got.

The only multiplier you need is the "filter amount".
Regardless, i just retested with your image, and point of view (i was still too far away), and i got these results:
            a) Max Bitmap, filtering set to "none"
            b) vrayBitmap, sharp isotropic, filter amount set to 0.01

You are right: there is *always* some interpolation and filtering going on in the VRayBitmap, and it's apparent when the texture is magnified (as opposed to minified) where it blurs (as opposed to reducing moiree while preserving visual detail.).
However, it seems to do what you want with the max bitmap.

I'm talking with the devs to see what's up, and if anything should/might change in the future.
