  • Distributed Rendering Issues

    Hi all,

I'm trying to get DR set up to speed up some of my rendering but every time I hit render, nothing seems to happen on the DR Host machine.

    Some background info
    • Computer 1 (Desktop): Alienware Aurora R12, 11th gen i9, 32GB RAM
    • Computer 2 (Laptop): Lenovo Legion, 10th gen i7, 32GB RAM
    • 3DS Max 2021
    • All plugins and scripts matching between machines
    • Both Machines on same network
    • 2 render nodes purchased and on my license
    • Both machines open scene in question independently without errors
    • Both machines can render scene in question independently without errors
    • DR Spawner running on Laptop (although Task Manager says the 3DS instance is not responding)
    • DR Check tool used before every render attempt to confirm connection to DR Host
    Here's what happens:
    1. After setting everything up and hitting render the render begins as expected on the local host (Computer 1).
    2. The V-Ray Messages indicates the DR host is found and connected.
    3. On Computer 2, the 3ds instance goes unresponsive (if it wasn't already)
    4. After about 6 minutes the V-Ray Messages indicated that the DR host failed to ping and it drops its connection
    5. DR host server remains "Busy" but unresponsive until I force close it.
Ultimately it seems like the the DR Spawner is the issue, even when I'm not actively sending a render, it seems to go unresponsive. Should I just attempt reinstalling V-Ray, or am I missing something?

      Hi ian_veenstra,

Can you check the following troubleshooting guide for DR rendering and see if you've missed any of the suggestions - https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...shooting+Guide

In case you're still experiencing the issue, log files from both the host machine and render nodes would be greatly appreciated. You can also get in touch so we can schedule a remote session and troubleshoot on the spot. Thanks!

So for anyone who may be having a similar issue, I eventually found that if the units for 3DS on the slave machine don't match the units on the host/the units of the file you're trying to render it seems to cause the spawner to hang during initialization and never start the render.
