  • Bug: Dragging Materials from Library to MEditor

    Hi,

i have a possible bug when dragging materials from the VRay Material Library (not the Cosmos one) to the material editor slots. It doesn't seem to load the textures pathes in this case and the material is grey.
When assigning the material on an object and picking the material from it it works.

    Hey Jonas,

Hm looks like I'm getting the same thing in the Compact ME, while it's working fine when dragging materials in the Slate ME - can you please confirm? We'll investigate and get back to you.

      Hi,

it's called the "Compact ME", not "Old ME" and i personally prefer that one for most of my work But yes, in the Slate ME this problem doesn't seem to occur.

Pardon my figure of speech, Jonas - now edited in the original post.

Other than that, this seems present prior update 5.2 as well, and has been logged under VMAX-11355
Right-clicking on the material and selecting 'Add to Material Editor' seems to work fine.

Mind that the Cosmos Browser will be the distribute channel for V-Ray materials from now on - as noted in the changelog, there won't be any further development on the V-Ray Material Library

          Alright thx!
Makes sense to integrate everything in the Cosmos browser, in fact I was wondering why it hasn't been done from the beginning as both Cosmos and MatLib have been released together in Update 1.
As of now the MatLib seems to have more (and better) materials though...

MatLib was released in V-Ray 5.0 and Cosmos material asset type is ready now (5.2), those two are 1.5 years apart. Of course it's more logical to have one universal asset distributing service, but we wanted to share those materials sooner and this is how the MatLib was born - as a temporary solution until Cosmos is ready.
If it was that easy, it would have already been done

Ok that's right. I somehow mixed up and thought MatLib was also in 5.1 together with Cosmos.

A related question - are all the materials that were in the V-Ray Material Library Browser in v5.1 now in Cosmos in v5.2?

No, they'll be moved at a later phase. For this release the focus was on new ones.
