  • VRay Denoiser not working correctly with Light Mix

    Hi Guys,

I'm having the best time with vray 5.
It's by far the most interesting release in my 10+ year CG career.
Beyond the expected minor issues, it's been a blast working with it so far.

Though, I currently am not able to get the Denoiser working with Light Mixer if I choose a Layer Preset from the drop down menu.
If I load the same layers from the History instead, it works fine.

Basically If I load the Layer Preset, the Denoiser keeps "resetting" the Light Mixer, or at least it shows the Denoised image but without the Light Mix changes.
If I turn off the Denoiser Layer, the image shows the Light Mixer changes.
This does not happen if I load the same layers from the History, or load a Light Mix preset.

    I'm using the Intel Denoiser.
    Running VRay 5 Update 2.1

I found a Sketchup thread with the same issue, but that was for update 1,5. And there was no new responses.

    Has this been logged yet?

    EDIT:
Did some further testing, and it issue only appears if I load a Layer Preset from the Dropdown menu, NOT if I load it manually using the load button.

Thanks for the report, the issue is reproducible. I've logged (internal bug-tracker id: VMAX-11733) and informed the developers about the matter. For now, use the manual Layer Preset loading as a workaround.

Yes, work on it hasn't started yet. I'm gonna give a bump on your behalf so as to prioritize the issue.

Ok thank you. In my opinion is it an important fix as the lightmix is pretty much useless until it works with the denoiser.

Hi again, I have found that a restart of max and then rendering without touching anything in the framebuffer will give you a denoised pass with lightmix adjustments, but only so long as you don't touch anything in VFB before or during render. Works for now but is still not working with batch rendering and is a pain in the b*tt to have to restart large max scenes.
