  • Vray Sun glare not working

    Hi guys,

I'm having an issue in this particular file where my vray sun isn't creating a sun flare lens effect. I have lens effect enabled, vraysky in the environment slot. when I create a completely new scene it works fine. so I tried to merge this scene into a clean file, and even created a new vray sun and sky map...still no lens effect showing. The glare does work for other lights in my scene though. bizarre. Any ideas?

    Thanks guys

is the sun maybe set to invisible?

I found that the lens flare is visible, though only when something is occluding the sun.
On an empty scene it's not visible, if that helps.

EDIT: Interestingly, it is sort of what you expect if you drag the sky to the material editor, then tick the 'specify sun node' box but leave the sun light at 'none'.
Then you can just tweak the intensity etc. I'm sure that's not how it's meant to be used but may be useful if you still have problems

          thanks fixeighted.

I'm not entirely sure what you mean. it has always worked for me, and on an empty scene it works fine. do you have this issue often?

Sorry, I just woke up so a bit bleary still .
I initially left the sun at 1.0, so the flare did not show without occlusion of course. Reducing intensity made it pop back in as expected.
Maybe you just have a glitched scene. Post it stripped and I'll see what I get here.

Do you have an aerialperspective effect active?
              A.

                    Try this:
                    - Recreate the sun and VraySky
                    - Reset VFB lens effects
                    - Reset Render settings
                    A.

I even created a completely clean scene with a simple teapot and it's not working. See attached.

                          An hdri works though...

                            Ah I see now
It works fine in your scene Terri
The issue is your sun is not in view.

Remember the sun does not appear in your render view in same place as what you see in viewport and it's icon representation in view. Its actually much much further away. So if just move your sun a bit left and down in your view, then you will see the sun disk and it will receive lens effects
